Apple Peels and Warm Crayon Drawings

The morning began with some time in the art studio for Josephine and Diego, painting with glitter glue.

In the afternoon, baby Ria made a new friend . . . Marie.

Today we used my grandma's apple peeler for the first time. Everyone got a turn, and what's even better, the peels were just as fun to eat as the apples (oh, and the apples are courtesy of my generous neighbor and her bountiful tree).
Josephine turns the crank.

Next, Eden gives it a try.

Look how long Eden's peel is!

Next it's Diego's turn.

And then Iain gives it a whirl.

Then we took out another thing that had belonged to my grandmother . . . her electric griddle. We turned it on warm, put paper on it, and colored on it with crayons. As the crayons heated up, the wax melted, and the crayons felt more like pastels, but even more smooth and slippery. The colors were vivid since they went on so much thicker than usual.
First, Eden tried out the griddle.

Next, it was Iain's turn. Iain has always been a "minimalist," so it was a pleasant surprise when he decided to cover his entire page with crayon.

Here you can see the melted wax.

Then Josephine had a turn. I sat with each child holding the paper still with silicone hand covers.

Next was Marie.

And finally, Diego had a turn.
