Banana Bread and Flying Things

This afternoon we made banana bread. Everyone got a chance to help (and then to eat it afterwards!). Here's the mise en place.

Eden poured in the sugar.

Josephine peeled some bananas and put them in the mixer.

Orianna also peeled bananas.

Eden cracked some eggs and put them in the mixer.

Orianna scooped flour into the bowl.

Iain added the finishing touch . . . vanilla.

Josephine scooped the batter into a muffin pan.

Iain also got to try out the scooper.

Eden started filling the second pan.

And Orianna finished it up.

Everyone enjoyed a picnic snack once the muffins were ready.

And as I was inside emptying out the next pan of muffins, I heard an extremely loud buzzing sound. Then, before I knew what had happened, a June bug landed on the counter in front of me, right in the middle of the muffins!!!

Here's Rosie (named later by the kids) up close.

We caught Rosie, and the girls quickly set about creating a home for the beetle.

Rosie's new home:
And then the banana bread came out of the oven.

Later on we heard another very load flying thing, but this time it was an FA-18 jet fighter practicing around Moffett field, flying repeatedly over our house.
