Spider Soap

Today we made soap. We started with a huge block of glycerin soap. Everyone of course wanted to touch it and feel how smooth it was.

Then I cut it up into smaller chunks so that it would be easier to melt.

The kids wanted to try out cutting up the soaps themselves, so they gave it a go with butter knives.

We then put the cubes into a glass container and microwaved it.

After a few minutes, you can see that it is partially melted.

And here it is almost completely melted.

Meanwhile, the kids placed each of their spiders upside-down in a silicone muffin pan.

I poured the melted soap into the muffin molds.

And then we waited for the soap to harden.

While the girls all chose purple spiders, Ryan chose two small glow-in-the-dark ones. It turned out really nice, and he even tried it out by going into a dark closet--and they glowed!
